Paul Yates began his City career with the fund management business of Samuel Montagu in 1980. He joined Phillips and Drew in 1985 – the year that it was acquired by UBS. He held a variety of roles at UBS covering management, portfolio management, pensions, strategy and client service. He was CEO of UBS Global Asset Management (UK) Ltd between 2001 and 2005 where he led a team of over 350 people, achieved strong revenue growth and introduced a successful diversification into the retail sector. He retired early from a long and fulfilling career with UBS in September 2007.
Paul is a Non-Executive Director of Fidelity European Trust PLC, where he is also the senior Independent Director of Witan Investment Trust PLC and is Chairman of WIT’s Remuneration Committee. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Capital Gearing Trust PLC.
Paul was educated at Rugby School and Edinburgh University. His interests include golf, real tennis, walking, bridge and travel.
Paul Yates joined 33 St. James’s in 2008 and was invited to become Chairman in 2012. He became Chairman Emeritus in 2023.
